This week we traveled to Plant City for the War on I-4 event. Powerhouse thought they had made it to the bigs when both pool play games on Saturday were scheduled in Plant City Stadium, former spring training home of the Reds.
Powerhouse faced the Tampa Titans Elite in the first pool play game. Bradley took the mound for the first game as Powerhouse won the toss and elected to be home team. The first inning started off rough when the first base ump blew the first call of the game at first base. This was followed by a fielding error, giving the Titans two base runners. The Titans were able to use a fielder's choice and basehit to score two runs in the top of the first. The next two innings went quickly and Powerhouse was down 2-0 going into the bottom of the third. Jorge led off this inning with a homerun. This would be followed by another run and the game was tied 2-2 at the end of three. Pedro stepped to the mound for the last half of this game. A couple of errors and some timely hitting had the Titans adding adding to their score, but Powerhouse battled back, with Jorge hitting a second homerun in the fourth inning. The game was tied heading into the top of the sixth. In the top of the sixth, the Titans were able to take advantage of two walks and five basehits to add 5 runs to their score. Powerhouse was only able to answer back with one run, yet another homerun by Jorge (that was three in one game!) Powerhouse started off Saturday losing 11-7.
The second pool play game was against the Tampa Threshers. Adams would take the mound for the Powerhouse who won the flip for the second game. Carson relieved Adams in the fourth inning of this game. The Threshers would take advantage of the five errors Powerhouse made in the field and won this game 7-5. Powerhouse still cannot seem to put it all together on Saturday!
Sunday morning saw the Powerhouse facing the Rawlings Gators. Alec received the call and pitched a four inning complete game as Powerhouse run-ruled the Gators 17-5 in four innings. During this game, four different Powerhouse hitters had homeruns, including Adams the second batter in teh bottom of the first inning, giving us an early 2-0 lead as Brock was able to reach on a strike out dropped third strike. In the bottom of the third, Alec helped himself with a solo shot. With one out in the bottom of the third, Ty and Jorge hit back to back bombs. Powerhouse bats were impressive in this game, scoring 5 runs each in the first and second inning and 7 runs in the third.
This set up a re-match between Powerhouse and Tampa Titans Elite. Adams went to the hill for the Powerhouse. The Powerhouse were down 3-0 after the first inning, but Powerhouse would hold them scoreless for the rest of the game. Adams pitched four innings and Jorge came in for the final two innings. Powerhouse bats were able to put up runs in all but the first and fourth innings, winning 5-3. This win also gave Powerhouse a one game break before the Championship Game.
The Championship Game would feature Powerhouse vs South Florida Swamp Rats (who we run-ruled two weeks ago in the Lithia tournament). Swamp Rats jumped out to an early 5-1 lead at the end of the first and never looked back. Bradley gave up three runs on two hits and two walks in the top of the first before being replaced by Pedro as he left the game with a migraine. Pedro, for the second week in a row, pitched well in the Championship Game but did not receive the run support needed, as the Powerhouse place second for the second week in a row, losing 8-2.
