This weekend Powerhouse traveled to Leesburg for the New Era NIT. Going in we knew this would be a tough event. Powerhouse faced O-Town Patriots in the first game. Powerhouse definitely wanted to win this one as we placed second to O-Town just a couple of weeks ago in Kissimmee. Pedro and Alec both combined to pitch 3 innings in this game. Jorge had a timely hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Powerhouse the win 5-4!
Next, Powerhouse took on the Gainesville Ghosts. While this was our first meeting with this team, expectations were high as Brooks Walton plays for the Ghosts. Brooks is the son of Pride Coach Tim Walton, and helped us out last year during the Global World Series. Bradley pitched a solid first three innings giving up two runs behind some solid Ghost hitting. Jorge took the mound next but had trouble finding a groove, lasting only 1/3 of an inning. Brock finished out the six inning battle on the mound. In the end, the Powerhouse bats were silenced by the Ghosts in a 6-3 loss.
A 1-1 record in pool play set Powerhouse up as the number 3 seed facing one of our biggest rivals, Orlando Panthers. Alec took the mound for Powerhouse. With Powerhouse leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Alec ran into some trouble. Pedro came in and was able to get us out of the inning with the score tied 3-3. Powerhouse bats were silenced in the top of the sixth. The Panthers rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring the run they needed to win on a basehit with no outs.
Powerhouse will be off next weekend preparing for their upcoming trip to Atlanta.
